Boho fringe booties

The second of presents I made for my new goddaughter Maxine is a cute pair of fringe booties. I actually adore fringes as they can make any outfit look very gypsy. And fringes are very much in fashion. You'll find them from Zara to Gucci, for young and old. The pattern and tutorial I used was from Shwin and Shwin . The tutorial comes with a free PDF pattern and is well explained.

I used a dark purple imitation leather for the outside and lined the boots with a matching cotton with a bird print.

The boots don't quite fit yet but I'm sure that in a year or so Maxine will look absolutely adorable!

For Maxine...

2 weeks ago I became the proud new godmother of a baby girl named Maxine... I am very excited because I do admit that sewing for little girls can be more exciting than for little boys. It's not that you can't find nice patterns out there for boys, it's just that there is so much more variety in fabrics, patterns and notions that makes it so much more exciting. You also can't ignore the fact that girls appreciate a nice dress so much more than boys like a new pair of pants...

I made Maxine  a variety of presents of which I will present the first one today... As my cousin, who is Maxine's mum was still looking for some decorations for her bedroom I made a a small pink detail wall weaving. I figured it wasn't too baby-like so she could probably keep it on her wall until she's well in her teens.

Hopefully this will bring the finishing touch to the little one's room...

Weaving

My latest obsession is all in line with the anthropologie boho craze I'm so inspired by. It's only been a few months since I first discovered Maryanne Moodie, THE weaving it girl of the moment. I'm in total awe for her colour coordination and weaving techniques every time I come across them online. I had been doing some weaving research over the past few months and found quite a few interesting videos and blogs.

It wasn't until I came across the brilliant girls of Honestly WTF that I couldn't resist making my very own wall hanging. As I was a weaving virgin I played it safe and followed Erica's weaving tutorial step by step. I decided to stay in the turqoise colour scheme, as to fit in with the rest of my interior. I'm so proud of the result!

After I finished my first wall hanging I straight away started a second one... This time I was inspired by Maryanne Moodie and went for more tassles and some pompoms.

I still have another wall hanging on my bucket list which I plan to make for our bedroom. This time I will work with more rusty, nude and beige colours...

A dress for mama...

Phew... 42 degrees is way too hot for my liking! Windows are all steamed up and it's a true sauna out here... On top of that, we're in the middle of Ramadan so me and my little one are clustered to home. As he's having longer and longer naps during the day it's not necessarily a bad thing!

I finally managed to make myself a dress. Well... it's taken me about 18 months! I started this dress just before I got pregnant. Unfortunately, as soon as we received the news about our little baba I completely lost interest. I started sewing baby clothes like there was no tomorrow and when I finally felt like making myself something new, I simply wouldn't fit in it anymore...

Anyway, I've reached the point where it's nice to have some time to myself.
The pattern I used for this dress is Vogue 8766.

I was inspired by a Prada dress I saw in a magazine. The dress had bright colored horizontal stripes and had a 1920's feel to it, with a modern twist.

Vogue 8766 reminded me of this dress and with some minor changes, especially length wise I created my own Prada dress!

I used bright pink stretch jeans for the dress and lined it in a cotton of the same color.

I shortened the dress by approximately 20 cm and made the ruffle about 5 cm shorter...

Now counting down for the cool weather to return and in the mean time... sew!

Luca's sarouels

How do they do it... Hats off to all new mums who get behind a sewing machines before their baby reaches the 6 month mark! It's taken me a while to get started again (7 months to be exact). But hey, there's only one thing better than spending an afternoon sewing and that's having some TLC with a little baba who has the ability to make your heart fly, all day long, every day.

So I'm running that well oiled sewing machine again and I'm bursting of plans and ideas to get me started. I'm so in the mood!

I have a half finished dress waiting on my sewing table. I started it just after I got pregnant but lost all interest as soon as I knew I could really start on those super cute baby clothes. I have to say, I slightly lost interest but I really want to finish it... at some point.

As I'm more of a diesel than a petrol car (I'm a slow starter) I started off with a simple project, some baby sarouels.
I love sarouel trousers (or harem pants as some people like to call them). They're an easy project, finished in just over an hour and they're super comfortable for babies to move in. I admit I love the skinny jeans but let's be honest, what would you prefer to crawl in?

I made this pair in grey cotton with stars. I trimmed the legs with elastic to make them look extra puffy. Luca needs a few more pairs so I'll be back soon...
